About Me

WHO IS JAY KENT?

Welcome, I’m Jay Kent, an Industrial Designer living in Southern Ontario. I love to design and bring new products to life. For the past 20 years, I’ve worked on a variety of design disciplines. Some of my favourite projects was designing cosmetic environments for Rexall Pharmaplus. A design highlight was to be part of a special effects team for the movie I, Robot.

For the past 6 years, my career has transitioned from design to management. My current role in a small start-up has me wearing many hats. My duties include product development, sourcing, budgeting and leading a manufacturing team. I have experience as a product owner and scrum master.

My diverse background has allowed me to develop a niche set of skills. I’m an excellent problem solver and enjoy solving difficult problems.

HOW DO I THINK?

I love the process of design and making objects that aren't only beautiful but functional. My inspiration comes from a variety of things, from architecture to furniture to nature to film. I love to take raw or used materials and turn them into some new and exciting. Traveling with my family is my second biggest passion We've been lucky to see and do some incredible things this planet has to offer.

Professional Experience

A small sample of the work that I've done in my past. I'm extremely proud of these as they really showcase the breadth of the experiences I've got to enjoy.

Personal Work

I consider myself a maker and a creator. I love to make fun and great-looking items. Halloween is one of my favourite times, especially with my kids. Here's a small selection of work that I've done for myself for friends for my children. My brother and I run a company called Gregarious Gizmos. Our work can be seen here

Travel and Photography

I didn't start travelling till I was in my 20s and I feel like I'm making up for it now. I'm so interested in different cultures their history, there where they live, and how they live. We traveled a lot as a family and this is a small selection of some of the places we've been to. I love to incorporate the world ideas into my designs at every opportunity I get.
